In this series, we are interviewing members of our club, so that you can get to know each other a bit better. Today we talk with Karine Lepolozec about her life and work in the region.
What brought you to the French Riviera?
Fortune led me to the French Riviera. After residing in the UK and Calais for a number of years, I found myself seeking a fresh professional challenge. Life compelled me to apply for an e-commerce position at an international company in Sophia Antipolis, Amadeus; . Within a mere two weeks, I secured the position and opted for the sunshine and radiance, something I sorely missed after spending part of my upbringing in French Polynesia.
Cannes not only provided the desired luminosity but also boasts a seaside location (coming from Brittany, my heart will always lean towards the ocean), an essential element for my overall well-being.
Could you tell us about your professional career? What do or did you do for work?
I hold a background in statistics. Nevertheless, my genuine interests and passion have always gravitated toward the realms of art, fashion, and interior design – the true calling that fuels my enthusiasm.
Embarking on my career journey within international corporations such as Eurotunnel and Amadeus, I primarily navigated the field of IT, assuming roles such as product manager and project manager. However, in 2016, I made one of the most pivotal decisions of my life: I chose to alter my path and pursue what I was truly meant for – becoming an interior designer. Those who have known me for years applauded this decision, recognizing its perfect alignment with my personality and skills.
Throughout many years, I simultaneously delved into the study of interior design while maintaining my professional commitments. Initially, I enrolled in an Art School in Nice, followed by attending an Interior Design school with a diploma recognized by the French education system.
In 2022, I realized a long-held dream by establishing my own Interior Design Agency: KLZ Studio.
What does your company do?
KLZ Studio, based in the heart of Cannes, is your destination for bespoke interior design. We specialize in crafting personalized environments for discerning clients in retail, restaurants, and hotels who seek a singular, eclectic, and artistic vision. Our passion for unique interiors extends to residential owners who appreciate the essence of individuality in their living spaces.
At KLZ Studio, we believe in making creativity the focal point of every project, seamlessly balanced with functional utility. While our main canvas is the stunning French Riviera, our inspiration knows no bounds. Notable among our achievements is the comprehensive design of “Mamie Colette,” a charming French bakery located near Philadelphia in the USA. Elevate your space with KLZ Studio, where creativity meets functionality in perfect harmony.
Why did you decide to start your own business?
The role of an Interior Designer demands a fusion of artistic vision and technical expertise. As previously mentioned, I firmly believe in the power of a strong concept and daring choices, elements that can only be fully realized when you are the driving force behind the company.
Thus far, I have only participated in one event that I found incredibly invigorating.
Firstly, it was a pleasure to converse in English again and engage with a diverse assembly of individuals and professionals who share a common appreciation for intercultural exchanges.
Secondly, the atmosphere resonated with me, characterized by a laid-back attitude that is not commonly found among most French people.
What is your best advice to others thinking about living or working on the French Riviera?
I strongly believe that happiness can be found anywhere. With this in mind, my suggestion is to seize the opportunities presented by the region and explore the charm of quaint villages nestled in the hinterlands of the Alpes Maritimes.
Fun facts about Karine Lepolozec
Since when do you live on the French Riviera?
It has been over 20 years now, and contrary to what some people predicted – that I would no longer appreciate the beauty of the region after 4 or 5 years – I am pleased to prove them wrong. Witnessing a blue sky and the sun still brightens my day.
Where are you originally from?
I hail from the French West Coast, specifically Brittany, which explains my deep affection for the ocean. Consequently, I share a Celtic connection with my British cousins.
What languages do you speak?
French and English.
What is your favourite wine?
Saint Julien Beychevelle holds a special place among my favorites. I also have a particular fondness for Champagne, appreciating it for its effervescent bubbles.
What is your favourite spot on the French Riviera?
There are numerous stunning locations down here, making it difficult to choose a favorite. However, one particular spot that holds a special place in my heart, along with my boyfriend, is “La Pointe de l’Aiguille” in Théoule-sur-Mer. We both share a passion for swimming, and the sea on this side is remarkably clear and beautiful. Additionally, we have an affinity for Villefranche-sur-Mer, where the opportunity for deep diving is another cherished aspect of our coastal experiences.
What French word do you find difficult to pronounce?
‘Les chaussettes de l’archiduchesse sont-elles sèches ?’ This is a sentence that French actors use to refine their pronunciation.
