In this series, we are interviewing members of our club, so that you can get to know each other a bit better. Today we talk with Suha Semaan about her life and work in the region.

What brought you to the French Riviera?

It all started on a vacation trip in summer 2019 during which I met my current husband 😊

Two years later, we got married and I moved to Cagnes Sur Mer.

Could you tell us about your professional career? What do or did you do for work?

I am a bilingual speech and language therapist with 12 years of experience working in Arabic and English languages.

In Lebanon, I have worked in private practice as well as centers and inclusive schools.

My work involved providing therapy and remediation sessions to children with language delays and social interaction disorders as well as those who faced difficulties acquiring written language skills.

During my work, I collaborated with different professionals such as pediatricians, neurologists, psychiatrists, special educators, psychologists as well as psychomotor, occupational and behavioral therapists. I also supervised speech therapy students during their trainings.

I am certified to run a screening test for children identified at risk for autism (Rita-T) and to facilitate the “More Than Words” Hanen program which is designed to assist parents of children with social communication difficulties and/or are on the autism spectrum.

Since moving to France, I have been doing home and online sessions with English and Arabic speaking families on the French Riviera, France and other parts of the world.

I have also recently started working at a clinic in Antibes. I am also part of “SPRINT France” which is a non-profit organization of English-speaking and bilingual healthcare professionals who work with children with special needs.

Why did you decide to start your own business?

It was the only way I can use my experience to support English and Arabic speaking families in the region.

What would be your best advice to others thinking about living or working on the French Riviera?

Contact lots of people ahead, do your research and make connections. You will find lots of people who are here to help and guide you find your way. It will take some time but it’s worth it!
