In this series, we are interviewing members of our club, so that you can get to know each other a bit better. Today we talk with Wendy Herrero about her life and work in the region.
What brought you to the French Riviera? How long have you been here?
What brought me to the French Riviera was my work.
I was working for the same company when living in Holland and requested to be transferred to the South of France where we have one of our main offices.
The path followed to come here was not that evident as it took 3 years to finally have my wish become a reality, but I can tell you one thing: this has been the best decision ever!
It has been now 7 years ago I moved to the Côte d’Azur and I don’t regret it at all.
Could you tell us about your professional career? What do or did you do for work?
I have mostly worked in the Travel and Tourism sector all of my life. I started working for a Dutch Touroperator back in Venezuela, the country where I grew up.
Then worked at Schiphol airport for a Dutch Airline (Martinair) for 7 years and now I am working behind the scenes for a tech company who built the GDS (Global Distribution System) for airlines back in the 80’s… yes, that system that allows you to book your flight tickets. What does the company that you work for do?
The company I work for is called Amadeus and is a travel technology company which builds the critical solutions that today help airlines and airports, hotels and railways, search engines, travel agencies, tour operators and other travel players to run their operations and improve the travel experience all over the world.
It is a multinational and very multi-cultural company. I started working there when I was living in Holland and continue working at the same from this beautiful region.
It has now been 10 years that I am working here going through divers job position within the company.
What would be your best advice to others thinking about living or working on the French Riviera?
Be resilient, flexible and let go of the tough Dutch tight rules… that does not work here 🙂
